SPA (MPPCA) rates vs MEAA (MMPA) rates.  ​There is a lot of confusion between these two.​ SPA (MPPCA) is an agreement between Screen Producers Australia (SPA)  and the Media Entertainment & Arts Alliance (MEAA - UNION). SPA rates are the minimum wage agreed upon by the two governing bodies that are legal minimums to pay crew.  Screen Australia, Film Vic and government funded films must pay these minimum wages.  MEAA (MMPA) are the 'recommended' minimum wages by the Media Entertainment and Art Alliance. Screen Australia, Film Vic or any government funded films do not need to pay these minimum wages.  The MEAA Recommended Rates are the 2012 rates, adjusted each year by the annual National Wage Review decision conducted by the Fair Work Commission. The increases applied were: 2.6% on 1 July 2013, 3% on 1 July 2014, 2.5% on 1 July 2015, 2.4% on 1 July 2016, 3.3% on 1 July 2017, 3.5% on 1 July 2018, 3% on 1 July 2019, 3% on 1 November 2020, 2.5% on 1 July 2021, 4.6% on 1 July 2022, 5.75% on July 1 2023 and 3.75% on July 1 2024. SPA and MEAA acknowledge that the environment in which the screen industry operates is undergoing a period of technological and organizational change and this classification structure is currently under review. SPA and MEAA have agreed to establish an industry working group to advise them on the impact of such change. Where the working group recommends a variation of the classification structure, and where the parties agree that such variation is appropriate to properly serve the interests of the industry, the classification structure set out in this Schedule F may be varied. ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​
